Hundreds of fans, players and coaches honored more than 75 members of the military who attended Friday night’s football game against Solanco. Active and retired members of the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force and Marines were honored, along with those who lost their lives in service to their country. Members of the Gold Star Moms released red, white and blue balloons representing active-duty soldiers.
Among the mothers participating Friday were Denise Torbert, mother of Eric Torbert Jr., a Penn Manor graduate and Marine killed in Afghanistan in 2010, and Barb Benard, mother of Brett Adams, a Hempfield graduate killed in the line of duty in 2005 in Iraq.
The event raised $650 for the Pennsylvania Wounded Warrior Project. Participants also donated eight boxes of supplies for Victory House, a Lancaster organization that provides housing for homeless veterans.
