The wonderful smells coming out of Mrs. Brandy Smith’s 3rd grade classroom at Hambright were due to the book “Cranberry Thanksgiving” by Wende and Harry Devlin. In the story, Grandmother almost loses her secret recipe for cranberry bread to one of the guests she invites for Thanksgiving dinner. The students read the story and discussed the elements necessary to develop a story. To make the lesson more hands on, the students made their own cranberry bread. Each group of students had a chance to prepare the pans, crack eggs, measure applesauce and water, and stir the batter. The best part was the finished product! Each student will take a loaf of cranberry bread home for the holiday.
