Penn Manor High School senior Amelia Fetter attended the Pennsylvania School for Excellence in the Agricultural Sciences (PSEAS) at Penn State University in July. She is in the Animal Science Program at Penn Manor.
Selection to PSEAS is limited and application-based. The four-week residential summer program for academically talented high school students hands-on experience in research, laboratory coursework, field studies, and global agricultural security initiatives.
During PSEAS, Amelia participated in the PA World Food Prize Institute. As part of the program, students write a research paper outlining a food security issues in another country, offer solutions, and present their findings.
Students are given the title of “Borlaug Scholar,” after Norman Borlaug, Nobel Peace Prize winner, and are eligible for other scholarships and awards.
As a result of her research and presentation, Amelia was selected as a delegate to attend the Global Youth Institute in Des Moines, Iowa this October. She will join international leaders, scientists, and student researchers to collaborate on solutions for global food insecurity.
