Message from Dr. Gale – upcoming winter storm

Dear Penn Manor Community –

As the forecast for Saturday through Monday continues to develop, and the likelihood of significant snowfall increases, I want to share Penn Manor’s tentative plan.

  • “IF” there is a weather related closing on Monday, January 26, it will be a traditional snow day. School would be in session on March 9.
  • “IF” a closure would extend beyond Monday, January 26, we would then consider using a Flexible Instruction Day(s) for any subsequent days next week up to three additional days.

During a Flexible Instruction Day, students will be provided with independent assignments for each subject area the student would have that day. The classroom teacher will provide instruction on how the students will access the assignments.

Each teacher will be available for two hours of support each day through a virtual meeting or phone call at times determined by the teacher.

The completion of the assignments will account for student attendance for the day. If a student does not submit their required work by the end of the second school day following the Flexible Instruction Day, they will be marked as “Absent” for the day. This absence will require a parent excuse noting sickness for the student.

Please contact your student’s teacher or building principal if you have specific questions after receiving the respective correspondence.

Your continued support and flexibility are appreciated.

Thank you,

Philip B. Gale, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
