Nine Marticville Middle School students participated in “Construction Wars,” an interactive career exploration program held October 14 through 16 at Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Keystone location in Manheim.
The program is offered for middle school students in Lancaster, Lebanon and York Counties.
During the program, the Marticville students were able to explore construction careers through Google Virtual Reality, construct a toolbox, make an airtight plumbing fixture and a step stool.
Students also learned about heating, cooling and refrigeration, wiring circuits to turn on a light switch and assisted in laying brick under the guidance of the construction professionals.
“The goal is to open students’ eyes to the many career paths available in the construction trades,” said Marticville Middle School Counselor, Danielle Rogers. “Through hands-on experiences like Construction Wars, students learn that careers in the construction trades offer high-paying, in-demand opportunities — and that a four-year college degree isn’t the only route to a rewarding future.”
Construction Wars participants from Marticville were Quentin Alexander, Sophia Burkholder, Izabella Giordano, Nick Halderman, Chris Halter, Henry Jones, Verik Kleinhaus, Aubree Reinhart and Garrett Rettew.
We are appreciative of ABC Keystone and the construction professionals for making this possible for our students!
