Penn Manor Marching Unit earns honors in national competition

The Penn Manor Marching Unit recently had a strong showing in the USBands Open Class National Championships, held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Penn Manor placed eighth overall among the 13 bands competing in the Group 3 Open Class of the competition on November 2. In the category of Individual Music and Percussion, the band placed sixth.

“This was our first time participating in the national event, and we’re extremely pleased with the outcome,” said band director Andrew Johnson.

Nine judges critiqued all aspects of each band’s music and visual program. This was the fifth USBands competition for the Penn Manor Marching Unit this season.

Upon arriving back in Lancaster, band members received a rousing escort by fire trucks and police cars to the high school campus, organized by band booster parents.

“It was a moment our members will never forget,” Johnson said.

Congratulations to these talented students and their music instructors.
