New school year gets off to a smooth start

Under bright, sunny skies, Penn Manor schools opened their doors to more than 5,400 students Monday, August 26, to kick off the 2024-2025 school year.

This year’s opening went smoothly, according to Penn Manor superintendent Dr. Phil Gale, who visited district schools throughout the day.

“It is exciting to see our schools and classrooms filled with students, teachers, and support staff members full of energy as we begin this school year,” Dr. Gale said. “We are grateful for the work our support staff and teachers put forth this summer to make our first day a success. And we look forward to the many ways that students and teachers will unlock new opportunities this school year.”

Across the district, students were greeted by 34 new professional staff members and several new principals.

Dr. Shirley Murray is the new principal and Patty Detter is assistant principal at Manor Middle School. Brian Malek took over as principal of LeTort Elementary this school year, and Kim Marsh is the new principal at Pequea Elementary.

Chris Telesco is now an assistant principal at the high school, and Bill Shelley is the district’s new director of buildings and grounds.

Students will follow a regular school schedule Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be an early dismissal on Thursday, August 29, and there is no PM Kindergarten that day.

Early dismissal times are 1:30 p.m. for elementary students (K-6) and 12:20 p.m. for secondary (7-12).

There is no school on Friday, August 30, or Monday, September 2, for the Labor Day holiday.

We are excited to welcome back our students and staff, and we wish them the best this school year!
