Suren Clark named TSA national champion

Penn Manor High School graduate Suren Clark has earned two top-five awards, including a first-place finish, at the recent Technology Student Association (TSA) National Conference.

The 2024 graduate placed first and is the new national champion in the Future Technology and Engineering Teacher event at the conference, held June 26-30 in Orlando, Fla. He also placed fifth in the Extemporaneous Presentation event.

For his first-place award, Suren had to research and prepare a video explaining an application for the classroom and create a lesson plan/activity that correlates to the standards for technological literacy.

He prepared a presentation on Genially, a software that gives teachers tools to conduct interactive lessons within the classroom.

For his fifth-place award, Suren was given a topic and had a limited time to prepare and then immediately present on that topic. The preliminary round topic was “What was the most important innovation of the last 20 years?”

Suren chose to present on the advanced smartphone, primarily the touchscreen, portable, cellular-connected series beginning with the iPhone in 2007.

The semifinal round was “How does TSA prepare you for a technical world?” He presented on the soft skills, practical abilities, and independence that TSA has prepared him to use beyond high school.

“I could not be more proud of Suren’s work, both in TSA events and beyond,” said Dr. Molly Miller, Penn Manor TSA advisor and technology education teacher. “I have no doubt that he will be wildly successful as he goes on to attend Yale University this fall.”

Suren, who was the salutatorian for the Class of 2024, plans to pursue a double major in economics/mathematics and physics at Yale.

We congratulate him and Dr. Miller on this latest award.
