Letort celebrates reading with community ‘Books & Breakfast’ event

Letort Elementary School celebrated Read Across America week by hosting a “Books & Breakfast” event for the school community March 3.

More than 240 students, parents, grandparents and siblings attended the free pancake breakfast, which included a reading activity and a book raffle, prior to the start of the school day.

Staff members dressed up as characters from Dr. Seuss stories, and all participants were encouraged to spread out blankets in the multipurpose room and read with their children. “Books & Breakfast” concluded with the giveaway of 20 books, which were selected by the faculty to appeal to different age groups.

Letort principal Carly McPherson said the event was held to “encourage a love of reading and to enable community members to spend some quality time together.”

“We were overwhelmed with the turnout and hope that next year’s festivities bring even more families together,” she said.
