State champion bowling team honored by school board

Penn Manor school board Tuesday honored coaches and members of the Penn Manor bowling team for earning a second straight state title.

It was the first time in history that a Penn Manor athletic team won back-to-back state titles.

The seven members of the team that competed at states – Nick Fisher, Tanner Simet, Kyle Shertz, Austin Curtiss, Nick Mease, Dan Mease and Mark Smith – each received a commemorative plaque, as did coaches Chris Vital, Ed Fisher, Alan Wakefield and Jordan Wakefield.

On March 18, the boys’ bowling team beat Ephrata, 194 to 160, to earn the PIAA Bowling Championship title at Dutch Lanes in Ephrata.

The Comets are now planning to compete in the U.S. High School Bowling National Championship in Smyrna, Tennessee,  June 24-25.

Congratulations for making Penn Manor history, and good luck at Nationals!
