Family and friends gathered Wednesday in the Penn Manor High School library to honor 16 seniors who will participate in collegiate sports at 15 different colleges and universities next year.
The National Signing Day ceremony featured four students who plan to play field hockey, three who will play soccer, three who will run cross country and two who plan to participate in track and field. Other sports include golf, swimming, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, baseball and lacrosse.
Four students will attend Division I schools, and 12 are headed to Division III colleges and universities.
According to Penn Manor athletic director Jeff Roth, the student athletes excelled in the classroom as well as on the playing field, earning a median grade-point average of 3.9. Three seniors –Doug Kramer, Cameron Lovett and Megan Ritchey — earned a grade-point average above 4.0. Three others — Malachi Lyon, Emily Mackey and Brooke DeBerdine — have earned grade-point averages exceeding 4.5!
