State Legislature honors field hockey team

Penn Manor’s state championship field hockey team was recognized Tuesday by members of the Pennsylvania Legislature during formal ceremonies at the Capitol in Harrisburg.

Members of the Senate and House presented citations to the team in honor of the 2014 state title. The Comets were named AAA state co-champions Nov. 15, after playing to a 1-1 tie with Palmyra after two scoreless overtime periods. It was the first time since 1994 that two teams shared the state title.

The championship capped an outstanding year for the Comets, who compiled a 24-4-1 overall record and a 13-1 record in Lancaster-Lebanon League competition, defying pre-season predictions.

In the Pennsylvania House chamber, state Rep. Bryan Cutler praised team members for their hard work and dedication — as well as their academic and community service accomplishments. Cutler pointed out that team members compiled an average GPA of 3.89 and raised more than $3,200 for cancer research in 2014.

Congratulations to players and coaches on a well-deserved honor!
