Congratulations to the Penn Manor field hockey team, which won the Pennsylvania AAA Championship title in field hockey after playing to a hard-fought 1-1 tie with Palmyra Saturday.
Penn Manor was down 1-0 late in the game when Cassie Kline scored a goal with 4 minutes to go, sending the game into overtime. After two exhausting, scoreless overtime periods — featuring some amazing saves by goalkeeper Allison Schaefer — Penn Manor and Palmyra were declared co-champions.
It’s the first time two teams have shared the title since 1994, when Emmaus and Council Rock played to an identical 1-1 tie.
The state title is Penn Manor’s first since 2008, and it caps an outstanding year for the field hockey team. The Comets were Section I champs, Lancaster Lebanon League Champions and placed third in District III.
What a way to end an outstanding season!
