‘Read Across America’ Sunday at PMHS

Penn Manor School District will hold its 14th annual “Read Across America” to encourage reading and celebrate the life and works of Dr. Seuss from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 2, in the high school East Gym. The snow date is March 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the East Gym.

The event is held annually around the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel (“Dr. Seuss”), who was born March 2, 1904.

This year’s theme is “Reading Around Your Home,” and the gym will be transformed into a giant house, with a “bedroom” containing an inflatable mattress, a “bathroom” with a tub, and a “kitchen” where students will read recipes and make snacks.

There also will be a “backyard,” where students can try walking on stilts and other fun activities. The Cat in the Hat will be on hand to greet children before departing aboard a fire engine.

The event is open to all students and their parents, who are encouraged to bring books to donate to needy children and to read during “Drop Everything and Read!” ( D.E.A.R.) events as part of the celebration.

“Read Across America” is sponsored by Penn Manor Education Association with financial support from Penn Manor Education Foundation.
