Penn Manor High School senior Lily Wushanley will be the featured artist at Friday’s Hershey Symphony Orchestra performance of “Holiday Favorites,” beginning at 8 p.m. at Hershey Theater. Lily earned the honor of performing by winning the Hershey Symphony Young Artist Concerto Competition in March.
She was the first-place finisher in the 2013 competition, which was open to all performers in grades 7 through 11 who live in Central Pennsylvania. Lily was among the four students selected to compete, based on a recording of their playing and an audition. As the top performer, she received a $1,500 prize in addition to the invitation to appear onstage with the symphony.
On Friday, she will play Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major during the show, which will include a variety of traditional and contemporary Christmas and Hanukkah songs and carols. In addition to the Hershey Symphony, the Hershey Festival of Strings will perform.
Ticket for Friday’s show are $18 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and $10 for students. Children age 11 or younger are admitted free. More information is available at https://www.is.gd/blL51I or by contacting the Hershey Symphony box office at (717) 534-3405.
