Continuing a tradition begun more than 15 years ago, first-graders at Pequea Elementary School donned homemade costumes Tuesday and performed “Hooray for Thanksgiving,” a holiday skit written by Mary Churchill.
The students dressed up as pilgrims, native Americans, preachers and turkeys for the presentation, which describes how pilgrims and Indians gathered corn and hunted turkeys for the first Thanksgiving meal.
After the show, parents, grandparents and other family members joined the students for a treat of popcorn, muffins and sliced fruit.
The celebration was one of several being held this week at Penn Manor schools in honor of Thanksgiving. District schools will be closed for the holiday Thursday, Friday and Monday.
