A whopping 138 students at Manor Middle School were honored Wednesday for earning awards in the school’s annual fitness unit competition for 2013.
All students at the school completed three class periods of 20 minutes of walking and running around a quarter-mile loop. For the fourth class period, they ran a timed mile. Any student who completed at least 24 laps in the first three periods and ran the mile under 7:10 for boys or 8:00 for girls earned a Penn Manor Fitness Award T-shirt. Blue shirts went to 7th-graders, while 8th-graders earned white.
Students who completed at least 27 laps in three periods and ran a faster mile (6:00 for boys or 6:30 for girls) also got a gold T-shirt.
Twenty-five students earned the top award, and 25 percent of the entire student body qualified for a shirt, an unusually high percentage, according to physical education teacher Steve Kramer, who uses the competition to motivate students to stay active.
Congratulations, and keep on moving!
