Fourth Grade Conestoga Students Make 1,000 Cranes

A group of fourth grade students at Conestoga Elementary read the book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes about a young girl who became ill after the bombing of Hiroshima in World War II. The students were inspired by the story and set out to make 1,000 cranes. The cranes have been strung together and will be sent to Hiroshima, Japan to be part of the Children’s Peace Monument in Peace Memorial Park. At the end of the string are two special cranes that contain the signatures of the students who supported this project. For more information on this initiative visit
