Pequea Sixth Grade Students Host Coffee House

The sixth grade students at Pequea Elementary hosted  the 8th annual Winter Writers Coffee House for family and friends. Each sixth grade student was assigned a multi-genre holiday writing assignment. The students wrote narratives using various prompts, quatrain poems, shape poems, they created scrapbooks of holiday memories, wrote sentences using various literary devices and created invitations for a party to host an exchange student over the holidays. The party invitations shared the exchange students’ holiday customs from his or her home country as well our students’ personal customs. The students organized their writing into booklets that were bound together or they created websites using Google Sites and integrated Google Documents, Google Presentation, Prezis, GoAnimate cartoons, Glogster multi-media posters and talking shapes for their shape poems from Blabberize.

To culminate this project friends and families of the students were invited for hot chocolate and treats as the students read various selections of their writing. A sixth grade classroom was transformed into a winter writer’s wonderland as their guests enjoyed the students’ writing accompanied by some entertainment between genres. A musical trio started off one of the coffee houses with a holiday favorite.
