Millersville University students planned activities to incorporate physical fitness with academics and tried them out on Eshleman Elementary students. On Thursday, December 8, Mrs. Kaplan’s second grade students visited Millersville University’s Brooks Hall to meet with Dr. Stratton Schaeffer’s students from the Physical Education for the Elementary School class. Math, science, social studies, spelling, and nutrition were some of the subjects the MU students combined with a physical activity. A lesson about nutrition had the second grade students participating in a relay race to help their teams fill plates with all of the food groups. A lesson on animal habitats had the students slithering like snakes and waddling like penguins to reach a friendly habitat. The math lesson challenged the students to work in groups and solve math problems followed by jumping jacks totaling the answer. This is the tenth year for this partnership.
