Penn Manor Esports team members ended the year on a high note, earning three top three finishes in statewide competition.
They were among the 160 players from 36 schools competing in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Esports Association Grand Finals, held May 31 and June 1 at Mt. Aloysius College in Cambria County.
In the Smash Brothers Ultimate Individuals competition, Penn Manor’s Gabriel Perkins and Thomas Trussel defeated opponent after opponent until they faced each other for the state title.
Gabriel won the title, and Thomas placed second.
Micah Emigh, coach of Super Smash Brothers team, said he is “constantly amazed by these students and the way they manage to not only excel in their training, but also be great teammates to each other. Watching them grow over the course of a year has been incredible to see.”
In the Overwatch team competition, Penn Manor’s Seth Barrett, Wyatt DeFord, Jason Rhinier, Nathan DeJewski, Zoey Joniec, Dominic Malpica, and Riley Sanders tied for third place statewide.
“They are incredibly dedicated and driven,” Overwatch coach Tyler Lloyd said of the team members. “They practice the game, they study the game, they seek out challenging opponents and are always focused on being the best versions of themselves they can be. It’s truly inspiring.”
Congratulations to these students and their coaches for these impressive accomplishments.
