Middle schoolers are offered with career exploration opportunities throughout the school year.

Career exploration at the middle school

Participating in career exploration opportunities doesn’t start at the high school. School counselors across the district provide a number of opportunities throughout the school year so students can gain valuable hands-on experiences.

The eighth grade students from Marticville Middle School spent the beginning of the day on Wednesday, October 7 at their selected location. All 184 eighth-graders participated in one or two field trips for this event.

Students learned about the placement options during a counseling lesson at the beginning of the year. Each student selected their top three choices and provided an explanation for why they chose their first choice with the majority of students participating in their top-choice placement.

The students had the opportunity to travel to the following field trips: Career & Technology Center – Willow Street, IronStrong Metal Fabrication, Harnish & Rohrer Farms, Turkey Hill Dairy, Lancaster Stormers, Cargas, Franklin & Marshall College, and ABC Keystone.

“The event was held early in the school year to help students recognize the connection between what they are learning in the classroom and real-world career opportunities,” said Marticville Middle School counselor, Danielle Rogers. “We hope this experience will help our current eighth grader students make informed decisions when selecting their ninth-grade electives by connecting their interests and experiences to potential career pathways.”

The middle school students will have a variety of career exploration opportunities throughout the remainder of the school year.
