Gifted students from Conestoga and Eshleman present to parents and conservatory professionals on their findings from a few field trips to the Clark Conservancy in Pequea.

Students present on findings from the Clark Conservancy

A group of students in the Gifted program at Conestoga and Eshleman, presented to parents/guardians and professionals from the Lancaster Conservancy based on their findings from the Clark Conservancy in Pequea, Pennsylvania. The participating students were in second through sixth grade.

The group of students took three trips to the Conservancy throughout the months of September and October to collect natural artifacts that make up the conservancy and analyze the human impact on the environment.

Throughout the winter months, they completed research on the artifacts and findings from the human impacts on the environment.

Students were placed in groups and created a 3D model utilizing art supplies. On each of the models, flags symbolizing plants, rock formations, trees, and more were identified by a key created by the students.

At the end of each group presentation, the Conservancy professionals were invited to take a closer look at the models and learn more information from the presenters.

“It is exciting to see students taking ownership in their learning. There were many times the students themselves had to decide where their project was going and I am proud of their consistent and creative effort to produce such a high level product,” said Gifted Education Support teacher, Kim Garvey.

“PMEF supplied the funds for all 42 of my students from second through eighth grade to go on three field trips to meet and engage in activities with the Conservancy educators. The grant also provided materials in the field including gloves and trowels for our discovery learning and some of the materials to make the models. Their money helped every step of the way,” Noted Garvey.

The participating students from Conestoga Elementary were: Jeremiah Allen, Autumn Aungst, Cecilia Carrodo, Wilder Ferrari, Reigh Franssen, Nash Polaski, Drew Roberts, and Riley Stoltzfus.

Eshleman Elementary students included: Emma Birch, Caleb Birkenbine, Yousuf Dhungel, Jan Dygul, Liam Evans, Lucas Ginder, Emily Meier, Juliet Meier, Isabella Rodriguez, and Ada Slocum.

We are so proud of these hard working students!
