Kate Umbarger and Charlie Wood stand by a Rotary Club banner as the students of the month.

Students honored by the Lancaster South Rotary Club

Penn Manor High School seniors, Kate Umbarger and Charlie Wood, were named Rotary Students of the Month, by the Lancaster South Rotary Club. 

Students are nominated by Penn Manor faculty and staff for demonstrating the characteristics and qualities of being a great Comet. 

Kate Umbarger is a member of the girls’ lacrosse and tennis teams, Unified bocce ball team, Link Crew, Scholarship Club, Dutch Blitz Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Mini-THON Club, Civitas Club, and is a Student Ambassador

She is an honor roll student, Stop the Bleed Instructor, and tennis team captain.

Outside of Penn Manor, she is an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church youth group and Hopewell summer camps. Kate is involved in the Phantastix lacrosse club, Lanco Elite lacrosse club, and Penn Manor soccer club.

After high school, Kate plans to attend Messiah University to major in applied health science with an occupational therapy concentration and continue her lacrosse playing career. She hopes to become a Pediatric Occupational therapist.

Charlie Wood is a member of the boys’ lacrosse team and Link Crew. Charlie was team captain for the JV lacrosse team and was named defensive player of the year. He also received the Comet award.

He is actively involved in the community as a statistician for the Franklin & Marshall College football team and is an AV technician for live stream service at the Millersville Community Church. He volunteers with Toys for Tots and with his lacrosse team to clean up the Millersville Pool.

After high school, Charlie plans to attend McDaniel College and hopes to become an occupational therapist.

“Kate and Charlie are truly exceptional students who represent what it means to be a great Comet. They are excellent examples of scholar-athletes, demonstrating drive in the classroom, commitment in competition, and desire to seize the opportunities that Penn Manor offers,” said high school principal, Doug Eby. “Beyond their achievements, they are personable, respectful, and contribute to the positive atmosphere that makes Penn Manor such a great place to be.”

Kate and Charlie were honored at the November 12th Rotary Club meeting.
