Millersville University Digital Alliance
The purpose of the Digital Alliance is to pioneer an innovative electronic community between Millersville University and Penn Manor School District. Via a series of underground fiber optic connections between Penn Manor High School and Millersville University’s science and technology building, the entire school district will become a part of MU’s data and video network. With the potential of being the first relationship of its kind in Pennsylvania, the Digital Alliance will build a community that extends beyond the bounds of both the University and the District. This unique partnership will serve as a historic example of the next generation electronic educational community.
The Digital Alliance will explore the following projects:
Penn Manor will have access to the State System of Higher Education Distance Learning Network. Millersville University will gain access to Penn Manor’s High School distance learning room.
The partnership will allow access to a high speed Internet resources for Penn Manor School District. By becoming part of Millersville University’s network, the district will connect to the Internet via Millersville University’s Internet connection.
The Alliance will offer advanced communications between Millersville University student teachers, supervising professors, and Penn Manor teachers. Professors and student teachers would be able to collaborate electronically. Student teachers would have access to Millersville University network resources while inside Penn Manor School District.
Innovative uses of wireless technology will be explored. These include remote networking between university professors, district teachers, student teachers, and students.
Data and video connectivity between both institutions will foster innovative technological solutions for collaborative adult education and lifelong learning programs.
The Alliance will open the door to federal, state, and local intergovernmental grant opportunities for both institutions. It is the intent of PMSD to pursue grant funding for additional technology projects in cooperation with MU.
The Digital Alliance will create a network cornerstone in the Millersville community. Currently, Penn Manor School District is partnering with Millersville Borough to provide website hosting . Through the Digital Alliance, the three Institutions can explore innovative technologies and digital communities.
MU will be able to offer expanded course programming to PMSD students taking classes for credit. This programming includes distance learning between institutions and the development of shared virtual classrooms.
