Field hockey team gets championship rings

Thanks to the generosity of Penn Manor families and area businesses, Comets field hockey players have a beautiful keepsake of their championship year. Every player and coach on Wednesday received a ring commemorating the 2014 season, which culminated with a state championship.

Penn Manor was named AAA state co-champions Nov. 15 after playing to a 1-1 tie with Palmyra. The title capped an outstanding year for the Comets, who compiled a 24-4-1 overall record and a 13-1 record in Lancaster-Lebanon League play.

Wednesday’s ceremony featured a recap of the season, the presentation of rings and an address by Jaclyn Kintzer Briggs, a member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic field hockey team and current U.S. National Team goalkeeper.

The rings were designed by the team’s seniors and include each player’s name and number, the year 2014, the Comets logo and the words “state champions” around a bright blue stone. Recipients could choose silver or gold metal.

In all, 25 businesses and seven families sponsored the rings. Each sponsor received a signed, framed photograph of the team as a thank you.

“This evening of special recognition would not be possible without the generosity of many businesses and individuals within and around the Penn Manor community,” said Krista Cox, president of the Friends of Penn Manor Field Hockey booster club.

“On behalf of the PM field hockey team, we thank them for their gracious donation and support.”
