Staff unites for Opening Day activities

More than 400 Penn Manor staff members got revved up for the new school year at Opening Day activities at Penn Manor High School Monday.

Attendees enjoyed a hot breakfast before superintendent Dr. Mike Leichliter talked about Penn Manor’s increasingly diverse enrollment and how teachers and staff members need to inspire all students.  “We don’t just cater to superstars,” he said.  “We work with all students to be successful.”

Staff members were introduced to the district’s new human resources manager, Theresa Chiodi, and her staff, got a test drive of the new district website and a learned about a new initiative by Penn Manor Education Foundation — Strong & Healthy Families — to assist struggling community members.

The keynote speaker was Jordan Steffy, founder of Children Deserve a Chance and ATTOLLO, a program that helps students focus on college and career opportunities. An ATTOLLO pilot program was started last year at Penn Manor High School.

Staff members then broke into groups with ATTOLLO representatives to discuss ways to engage all students in the coming school year.

Thank you to all the staff members who attended, and best wishes on a successful 2016-2017!
