Manor MS Student Excels on National Spanish Exam

Emma Evarts, an 8th grade Spanish student at Manor Middle School, recently earned the highest individual score and Gold Honors on the National Spanish Exam for 2011. This national exam, sponsored annually by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, tests students in grades 6-12 on vocabulary and grammar achievement and reading and listening proficiency. Emma competed against students across the nation who were also in their first year of Spanish study. She was one of only two students in the Delaware Valley Region who scored gold recognition. For her achievement, she was awarded a Random House Spanish-English dictionary by the AASTP and also a trophy sponsored by the Delaware Valley Chapter of the AASTP. Her teacher is Cheryl Youtz.  Students in Mrs. Youtz’s class have been participating in this competition for 8 years.
