PENN MANOR SCHOOL DISTRICT AND PENN MANOR EDUCATION ASSOCIATION AGREE ON PAY FREEZE CONTRACT
At its meeting on Monday, April 4, 2011 the Penn Manor School Board voted in favor of a one year contract for teachers. The Penn Manor Education Association approved the contract earlier in the day. This agreement resulted from several months of discussions between district and association representatives and becomes effective on July 1, 2011.
“Both sides worked diligently to come to agreement on a contract which puts the needs of the students first. At the same time we recognize the financial hardships the district and taxpayers are facing,” said Superintendent, Michael Leichliter.
Penn Manor Education Association President, Mary Kay Fair added, “The Association’s goal was to work together with the District to tackle the current economic challenges facing Penn Manor. Throughout the process, a climate of mutual respect existed between the Association, Administration and the School Board.”
The new contract, which is valid for a one-year period from July 2011 until June 2012, includes a one-year pay freeze for all teachers with the assurance of no teacher furloughs for the 2011-2012 school year.
Negotiations for a new contract to start July 1, 2012 will begin by January 2012.
“We are pleased to continue the excellent working relationship we share with our teaching staff,” concluded Board President, Richard Frerichs.
