This was Harriet Lane' s actual desk. It sits in the parlor and she used it to write letters. The main way that people communicated with each other was through letters, so it would have been a very important piece of furniture to have in a home.

| This is the piano in the parlor. Harriet Lane was a good piano player and they enjoyed many evenings singing by it. Above the piano are the prints of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert who were friends of James Buchanan and Harriet Lane. There is a polka song called The Wheatland Polka that she enjoyed playing. |
