This is a sketch drawn for Frank Leslie's illustrated newspaper and it shows how James Buchanan's library was furnished and used. As you can see on the first library page, it has been restored to nearly the original appearance. |

| This is James Buchanan's original desk in the library. He wrote all his letters to his friends and his inaugural address on it. He installed the furnace by his desk to help keep warm since it was common for homes around this time to be chilly. | ||
