Penn Manor School District captures the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly

.
In 2002 Pequea fourth graders worked in cooperative groups to plan movies using story boards. They incorporated video footage, digital microscope photos, poetry they had written, Internet images, music, and text.

Mr. McKnight's Video Production high school students were busy downloading the video footage to computers and separating the video clips to be used in the movies. Using Adobe Premiere, the students reduced hours of digital footage into a time-lapse video to show the dynamic transformation of a larva into a Monarch butterfly.

In December the fourth graders collaborated with the high school students in the Video Production Lab at the high school to complete the project. Working closely together, each high school student used Premier software to produce a digital movie under the direction of the fourth graders, adding time-lapse, voiceovers, and transition effects to complete a full documentary of their own Monarch butterfly’s life cycle.

A portion of the documentary is available here in QuickTime and Windows Media format. These are large files so please be patient while they load.
