Multimedia Monarchs
As fourth graders at Pequea Elementary School in the Penn Manor School District got up close and personal with Monarch butterflies, their hands-on encounter was captured on videotape. Students investigated the Monarch’s lifecycle by raising tiny larvae, watching them transform into beautiful chrysalides, and wishing their newly emerged butterflies a safe journey to Mexico. Like good scientists, they documented their research in special journals from Lifestrands, Inc. View some entries from Caroline and Garrett’s journals.
After the Monarchs’ October departure, the adventure continued as
fourth graders made Monarch movies on the computer. In 2002 they teamed
up with high school students to assemble video clips,
time-lapse sequences, digital microscope
photos, poetry, music, and
more. In 2003 fourth graders made their own movies.
We hope you enjoy our butterfly project!
