Fifth grade means excitement! Many of you may be wondering what we will learn this year, well here is a sneak peek.


 

Reading: We will be exploring new authors including Avi, Jean Craighead George, Matt Christopher and many more. Find out more about books here.

PSSA Testing: In April, students will be taking the Math and Reading Assessement tests. In sixth grade, they will take the writing assessment test. Find out more about the importance of the Pennsylvania State Assessment test here.

Writing: What is FATP? A creative a new way to focus your writing.

F orm - Do I use a paragraph, letter, essay?

A audience - Who is going to read this writing?

T opic - What is the purpose of the writing?

P urpose - Am I writing to inform, persuade or express my personal opinion?

Students can look forward to journal writing and informative, persuasive, and narrative prompts.

 

Math: Students will learn many new concepts this year in geometry, fractions, decimals, and especially problem solving.

Science: Animals, Animals, and more animals begin the year. The Mimi is a voyage to study whales and the year ends with concepts that MATTER and the world of energy.

Social Studies: Journey into the past. We will start our travels in the 13 colonies and continue until the Civil War.
