Bullying Prevention Kickoff - September 22

Students watched the video - Gum in My Hair to start the day. Then, Mr. Don Stewart, the superintendent of the district, spoke to the students about his experience with bullying. Mrs. Suzanne Elia-Hoyes, a counselor within the district, also spoke to the students about how to deal with bullies and what the victim should do.

Students then rotated through 3 activity sessions.  One of the sessions was watching video clips from NetSmarts about internet safety and cyberbullying. Students then were able to discuss the video clips. The dot game was a fun way of having students understand how students feel when they are left out. Students were given the opportunity to see examples of bullying and create a banner of hands. The day was ended with the students making posters that are hanging around the school as a constant reminder of the "no bullying" message.  As the year continues there will be more activites to help students understand what bullying is and what they can do if they are a victim or a bystander.
