Math Percent project

 

 

1)     Cover - names, date, and picture or drawing

 

2)     Make-up 5 different reading problems using different topics and % and interest.

 

3)     Write the solutions for each problem.

 

4)     Find 2 consumer adds and 2 job wanted ads. Cut them out and describe the ad and the #’s.

 

5)     Find an ad about % off something.  Show how to set-up a problem to calculate discount and the sales price.

 

6)     Find a house for sale. Cut out and mount the ad. Set up I = Prt. Calculate your monthly payments using 6.5% interest at 15 yrs. and 30 years. Why are the numbers different? What would be the advantage of each?

 

7)     Area/Scale: Do a scale drawing of your ideal room. Include a scale.... for ex.1in = 1 ft.  Buy some furniture. Cut out the ad. Give yourself a 25% discount (math student of the mo.!) Show set-up and calculate how much you spent and how much you saved with the discount.

 

8)     Buy a Car. Cut out the add. Set up I=Prt. Calculate your monthly payment using  7.9% interest for 4 years and for 5 years.

9)     Find a CD ad or go to the bank and get a CD sheet. Calculate your interest for 5 years using the banks %.

 

10)   Each person....Describe what your group learned by doing this project. What  ideas did you find difficult with %. What ideas were easier? Did your group  cooperate and share the work evenly? Would you rather have a project or a test on %?
