hits When you get a large number of
matches, you can either try some of the links, read the
description of the links for a good match, or use other
search strategies to limit the search. A lot of search
engines have a "search these results" button, which means
you type in another related word for your topic and the
engine only searches throuhg existing
matches.
We could click on advanced search - click here. Now we could use geometry AND collinear as part of our search. Still a lot of info.....The words AND, OR, NEAR, NOT are all part of Boolean Searches. The use of these words varies from search engine to search engine but most accept them. Some search engines use + and - signs instead of AND or NOT.

AND. For our example, (collinear) we could use geometry,
collinear, points, planes, defintion, image, picture. Also
you could use NOT such as NOT company
We still need more help....Let's try advanced search tips- click here. In the advanced search for Yahoo, we find that if we put words in quotes, then Yahooo will look for both words. This is the same idea as I tried "collinear and geometry" and got a good hit...click here

Needed to narrow the searches. got it down to 4 hits when using collinear AND geometry AND defintion.

The site liked quotes. Finally found something using "collinear definition" this gave three hits. One of them being....

Has a neat feature that you can include an image. I tried "collinear AND geometry" and clicked on show image.

.jpegas a picture format, we could include these items when
we do a search for a picture. For example, if we need a
picture of, say, a flashing lightbulb, we could use what we
know of searches and try lightbulb AND animation

New search engines allow us to type in a question that allows the search engine to "understand" the question. For example, try "what is the definiton of collinear points?". Examples of these types of search engines would be google and dogpile......
