Health and Physical Education

One of my primary goals as a Health and Physical Education Teacher is to teach every child, from the physically gifted to the physically challenged, how and why they should keep themselves healthy and fit throughout their lifetime. In my program, I will provide learning experiences which are developmentally appropriate and that will teach children how to be physically active in ways that increase physical competence, self-esteem and joy through lifelong physical activity. Here is how that goal will be achieved:

The Health and Physical Education curriculum includes a balance of skills, concepts, game activities and rhythm experiences designed to enhance the development of every child.

Throughout the year I will teach activities that allow an opportunity to work together to improve their emerging social and cooperation skills as well as develop a positive self-concept.

Ongoing fitness assessment is used as part of the ongoing process of helping children understand, enjoy, improve and/or maintain their physical health and well-being.

Children are taught exercises that keep the body in proper alignment, thereby allowing the muscles to lengthen without placing stress and strain on the surrounding joints, ligaments and tendons.

Grade decisions are based primarily on ongoing individual assessments as they PARTICIPATE in class activities and NOT on the basis of a single test score.

Finally, my class is designed so that ALL children are involved in activities that allow them to remain continuously active, successful and having fun.
