Third Grade

Students

First Grade Buddies

Third graders can look forward to working with their first grade buddy on various learning activities. Once a cycle, the students will read to one another, practice letters and sounds, memorize math facts, and work on writing projects.

Fun Friday

Every two weeks the students are able to earn the privelage of attending a Fun Friday activity. These activities are extensions of the curriculum. Some of these include: science experiments, math games, scavenger hunts, videos,...

Travel Logs

To learn more about geography, each student sends out their own Travel Log to someone living in a different community. This person writes in the log and mails it to someone they know. They also send the a postcard to school so the child can track where their log has been. The log continues to travel until April 1st when they are mailed back to school.

Agriculture in the Classroom
(November)

Our Social Studies curriculum contains several units dealing with the study of Lancaster County. To support the unit on agriculture, local farmers volunteer their time to speak to our students. Through visual aids and discussion the students are able to better understand the responsibilities of a farmer and their contributions to our economy.

Spelling Bee
(February)

The Penn Manor School District sponsors a spelling bee for students in grades 3-6. The two third grade classes at Conestoga hold a spelling bee to select three students and one alternate to represent our school.

Science Fair
(March)

Students are encouraged to participate in the Penn Manor School District Science Fair. Each student conducts an experiment at home and collects data.This information is creatively displayed at the high school for judging. Conestoga students are invited to display their experiments in the school lobby.

Bike Rodeo
(April)

AAA of Lancaster County sponsors a Bike Rodeo to promote bicycle safety with children. Students in grade 3-6 are invited to bring their bikes to school and test their riding skills. There are several stations the students will experience which focus on different aspects of bicycle control and safety. Grade level winners will be invited to participate in the County Bike Rodeo at Park City Mall.

Track and Field Day
(May)

Track and Field Day is organized by our physical education teachers. The students travel to numerous stations and participate in various physical activities. Parent volunteers help to run each station.The day is filled with fun activities that promote fitness and cooperation.

Musical Performance

Third graders learn how to play the recorder during their music class. Mrs. Stuart teaches the students how to read music and play a variety of songs. During an evening performance for friends and family, the students are able to sing and play several pieces on their recorder.

Field Trips

The Conestoga PTO provides transportation for us to go on an educational field trip. The places we have visited in the past include: Fulton Opera House, North Museum & Planetarium, Amish Homestead, and Muddy Run Park. All of these trips have connected what we are learning about in the classroom to the world around us.
