Ulysses went to school in Georgetown, Ohio until he was fourteen years old. He went to an academy in Maysville, KY for one year. He also went to an academy in Ripley, Ohio.

Military Academy at West Point, NY
He didn't want to go to The US Military Academy but in 1839 he enrolled. He was an average student but he did very well in math. He wanted to teach mathematics in college. He was an equestrian at West Point.
The Congress got his name mixed up when he went to the Military Academy. They changed his name from Hiram Ulysses to Ulysses Simpson. He kept this new name because he thought people would make fun of his initials which spelled H.U.G.
U.S. Grant went to school with famous men such as: Robert E. Lee, George McClellan, and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. He graduated in 1843.
He graduated in the middle of his class.
