Math



 

The following are some of the math concepts that we will be learning, practicing, and reviewing this year in second grade:

*ordering numbers, *comparing numbers using greater than and less than, *measuring objects using length, volume, and weight, *creating fact families with related numbers, *identifying even and odd numbers, *counting money amounts using coins and dollars, *identifying and comparing solid geometric shapes, *recognizing fractions, *using place value with hundreds, tens, and ones, *adding and subtracting single, double, and three digit numbers, *solving problems using a variety of strategies, *telling time in five minute intervals, *and using early multiplication and division concepts
 

Some quick math notes:

-Math centers are available everyday when students finish their daily math work.
-Math centers include activities that pertain to practice, review, and enrichment concepts and are available for individual students to select.
-Each day at the end of math, Around the World is used to reinforce basic math facts.
-Flashcards will be coming home during the week so that students may reinforce addition and subtraction facts.
