Measure of Educational Quality

The following report represents a starting point in our quest for educational excellence in Penn Manor School District. As part of a Total Quality Improvement Project, each school principal developed a profile of measurable factors. In this report these factors are reported and are compared with a state or national average, when possible. The reported factors provide a picture of the district and outline a direction for improvement.

Achievement

A quality school district has a strong academic program which leads to above average achievement and continuous improvement.

Grade One

1995-2001

During the 1995-96 school year all first grade students were evaluated using the Reading Recovery Observational Survey. One part of the survey, the Reading Recovery book level, has been selected as a measure of quality. Listed below are scores for our first graders listed according to Reading Recovery stanines. While a stanine of 5 is average, we consider a stanine of 6 to be a grade level score. Therefore, 89% of our first graders scored grade level or above in the spring of 1996.
