Penn Manor School District receives 2004 Award of Achievement from PASBO for Computer Building Project. Penn Manor School District’s Information Technology Department has received an Award of Achievement for 2004 for their entry titled “Custom Built Computers: Fusing Creativity and Student Talent to Cut Costs and Maximize Learning” from PASBO (Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials). For the past three years, Penn Manor has built 450 new IBM compatible PC systems entirely in-house. The unique project has allowed the district to save a total of nearly $120,000 over purchasing commercially built systems, and it has actively involved students in the construction and maintenance of the computers providing them with valuable hands-on experience. The PASBO Award of Achievement program is designed to identify extraordinary school management practices, proposals and publications that lead to the effective use of valuable educational resources. The criteria used for evaluating the submissions include management enhancement, originality, application, measurable benefits, applicable impact and cost effective implementation. This is the second year in a row that the Information Technology Department, headed by Charlie Reisinger, Director of Technology, has received the coveted PASBO Award of Achievement. Penn Manor has been awarded a PASBO Award of Achievement each of the last four years, an extraordinary feat. All 501 school districts may submit entries with only two or three projects earning recognition. Charlie Reisinger will be recognized on behalf of the Information Technology department at the First General Session of the PASBO Annual Conference & Exhibits at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center on Wednesday, March 10.
