Three High School Math Students Excel

Senior Chadd Funk scored perfect score (800) on the math part of the SAT II. Chadd is the son of Brian and Roanne Funk. He is president of NHS and attended Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences. Chadd will be attending Dartmouth University as a Neuroscience major.

Junior Justin Eshleman scored a perfect 80 on the math part of the PSAT. Justin is the son of Craig and Linda Eshleman. He is a member of NHS and the swim and track teams. He plans to major in a math or science field in college.

Junior Paul Bernhardt scored an 80 (perfect score) on the math part of the PSAT and scored an 800 (perfect score) on the math part of the SAT. Paul is the son of Larry and Susan Bernhardt. He is a member of NHS, YPC, Peer Helpers, Quiz Bowl, and the cross country and volleyball teams. He plans to major in math in college, possibly in statistics.

Hambright's Books and Breakfast includes some Familiar Faces.

Hambright Elementary recently held its annual Books and Breakfast. Children and their parents came early to school to eat breakfast and read books together. The teachers at Hambright made the event memorable by dressing up as characters from some of their favorite books. Fourth grade teacher Melanie Rios was Charlotte the spider and sixth grade teacher Beth Wagner was Wilbur the pig from "Charlotte's Web". Other recognizable characters included Amelia Bedelia, Raggedy Ann, and Viola Swamp.

M U Students Share Knowledge with 5th Grades

Fifth grade classes at Conestoga Elementary partnered with the Technology students from Millersville University for a special project. The Millersville University students came up with topics that fit into the fifth grade course of study. This year one fifth grade class designed ships that were used by the early explorers and the early settlers. The ship designs were based on real ones and were created out of balsa wood that was either nailed, stapled, or glued together. The other fifth grade class made wind chimes in preparation for a weather unit. Students were required to cut medal under the supervision of the MU students.

Marticville Middle School TSA Students Operate Santa's Workshop for Eshleman Students

Eighth grade TSA students at Marticville Middle School organized a Santa's Workshop for the 4th, 5th and 6th grade Eshleman Elementary students. Each Eshlemen students had the opportunity to sand a precut wood ornament, drill a hole for hanging the ornament and then paint and decorate the ornament. Next the students screen printed a gift bag and holiday card to accompany their gift. The Marticville TSA students precut the ornaments and created the screens as well as helped the younger students screen print.

PMHS Students Prepare 40 Food Baskets for
Area Residents

Several service organizations at Penn Manor High School teamed up to make the holidays a little more festive for area families. With help from area businesses who donated food items and funds the organizations raised, the students assembled forty food baskets. Each basket included a wide variety of groceries and a turkey. Service organizations that participated include Penn Manor FFA, Serteen Club, and Varsity Club.
