Bios and Information
Mr. C. Willis Herr -
President
Term Expires: 12/2009 - Years on Board: 10
Age: 65
Occupation: Self-employed entrepreneur and owner of Herr's Fruit Farm, Cocalico Tree Farm, and Susquehanna Manor Inn
Reason for Serving: Reason for running the first time was that I was asked to at a time when there were several vacancies. I think I was chosen because I could bring stability to the board.
Dr.
Richard L. Frerichs - Vice President
Term Expires: 12/2009 - Years on Board: 10
Age: 65
Occupation: Retired Educator
Reason for Serving: Providing a quality basic public education to all students is a responsibility that should be shared by all citizens. As a retired educator and life-long learner I wanted to get more involved in our local school district. I was committed to giving back to a system that provided a quality education for my two daughters. Being a member of the School Board enabled me to fulfill this commitment and take an active role in accepting this responsibility.
Mr.
Joseph P. DeLuca
Term Expires: 12/2011 - Years on Board: 4
Age: 52
Occupation: Owner of small woodworking company that reproduces 18th century furniture
Reason for Serving: I think public education is one of the most important functions of our government.
Mrs.
Johnna M. Friedman
Term Expires: 12/2009 - Years on Board: 4
Age: 46
Occupation: Business Owner
Reason for Serving: I have always been very involved with the PMSD through parent support groups (ie: PTO, CAP, special committees) and feel that involvement in public education is important to its success. I feel that it is a priviledge to represent my constituents in working to provide the best education for all of our students and at the same time being responsible to the taxpayers.
Mr.
Franklin C. Hoke
Term Expires: 12/2009 - Years on Board: New Member 12/07
Age: 59
Occupation: Retired from ITT Industries
Reason for Serving: I volunteered for the open seat on the board because it gives me an opportunity to serve the school district where my two sons graduated and my family has lived for the past 30 years.
Mr. J. Kenneth Long
Term Expires: 12/2011 - Years on Board: New Member 12/07
Age: 51
Occupation: Financial Consultant
Reason for Serving: I want to give back to a school district that gave my children a great education.
Mr.
Carlton L. Rintz
Term Expires: 12/2011 - Years on Board: 4
Age: 47
Occupation:
Reason for Serving: I have a passion for youth and the ever increasing value of a quality education. I am a firm advocate of the public education system and the benefits it provides to our children and our community. It is my hope that by serving on Penn Manor School Board, I can utilize my skills and abilities in effort to continue to better the overall education experience for our children, while at the same time being fiscally responsible to those that elected me to serve in this capacity. I also feel a responsibility to serve and give back to the community in which I reside.
Mr.
Kirk D. Schlotzhauer
Term Expires: 12/2011 - Years on Board: New Member 12/07
Age: 44
Occupation: Registered Representative with Primerica Financial Services
Reason for Serving: Having served in the Marine Corps for 21 years, I have a strong sense of public service. As my two sons are students in the Penn Manor School District, I would like to be involved in the community by contributing toward the quality of education and environment within the Penn Manor schools.
Mrs.
Donna Wert
Term Expires: 12/2011 - Years on Board: 9.5
Age: 56
Occupation: Teacher of students with Emotional and Behavioral Disturbance in Solanco School District.
Reason for Serving: I have had an ongoing interest in education through my studies, my children and the realization of the tremendous impact education has on our society. I believe it's important to have people serve on school boards that aren't there for a particular agenda but to have a part in steering the direction of the education of a given school district, with taxpayer sensitivity. A child's education and in particular, individual teachers can have a profound effect on choices students make in terms of friends, extra curricular activities, obeying the law, and future employment and education. Apart from family and church, few, if any institutions/ individuals can make such a claim.
