PM student qualifies for national theater marketing competition

Congratulations to Penn Manor High School senior Madison Beatty for earning a “superior” rating on her theatre marketing presentation at the Pennsylvania Thespian Conference, qualifying her to compete in the International Thespian Festival this summer in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Maddie also won a $200 scholarship at the state conference for presenting a portfolio of her original marketing designs and efforts.

The awards are a culmination of Maddie’s four years of active involvement in theater production and marketing at Penn Manor.

She was a member of the cast or crew of “Aida,” “The Locker Next 2 Mine,” “The Plot, Like Gravy, Thickens,” “The Sound of Music,” “Putnam County Spelling Bee,” “Grease,” “Charlotte’s Web” and “12 Angry Jurors.” Maddie also will appear in “The Little Mermaid” in spring 2017.

In addition, she was selected to serve as a Student Thespian Officer with the Pennsylvania Thespians last year.

Maddie’s theater marketing experience began in the ninth grade, when she created publicity materials for “The Locker Next 2 Mine.” She was marketing crew chief for “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” “Grease,” “Charlotte’s Web” and “12 Angry Jurors,” designing and producing posters and other print and online promotional materials.

“I am so proud of Maddie for her work both onstage and in theatre marketing,” said Melissa Mintzer, Penn Manor thespian troupe director.  “She has created so many different designs for each show, listened to feedback from the directors and her peers and constantly seeks to improve her design work.”

Maddie hopes to study marketing and theater after graduating from Penn Manor. She is the fifth Penn Manor student to qualify for the International Thespian Festival in the marketing materials category since 2009, according to Mintzer.

Other Penn Manor students who competed in individual events at the state conference included Gabby Martino and Kris Boston (solo musical) and Logan Connelly (costume design).
