Eight seniors vying for Homecoming crown

Eight Penn Manor High School seniors are vying for the title of 2016 Homecoming Queen while raising money for a program that helps military veterans and their families.

Shania Pagan, Emma Young, Lynsey Wissler, Kiah Trago, Emily Gutierrez, Karly Emmert, Brooke DeBerdine and Victoria Martin have been named to the homecoming court. One of them will be named Homecoming Queen during halftime of the Oct.  14 Penn Manor home football game against Conestoga Valley High School.

The eight candidates are raising money for Operation Homefront, a program that provides housing, food and other assistance to families of members of the armed forces.

Karly Emmert is the daughter of J. and Sherri Emmert of Conestoga. Her father will be her homecoming escort.

Karly participates in cross country, swimming and track and field and is a member of Varsity Club and Aevidum.

She plans to attend a four-year college and study marine biology or athletic training.

Victoria Martin is the daughter of  Curt and Beth Martin of Lancaster. Her father will be her homecoming escort.

Victoria is the school board representative for Student Council and a member of Aevidum and the Powderpuff football team. She plans to study dental hygiene after high school.

Emily Gutierrez is the daughter of Ana Montero of Lancaster. Her mother will be her homecoming escort.

She is a member of  the Serteen Club, Powderpuff football and the Spring Fling Crew. Emily also is a student athletic trainer for the football and boys’ basketball teams.

Emily plans to major in education and sports medicine at a four-year college.

Kiah Trago is the daughter of Anthony and Jaryn Trago of Willow Street. Her father will be her homecoming escort.

Kiah is a student athletic trainer and a member of the Spring Fling Crew, Aevidum, yearbook and Powderpuff football. She is undecided about her plans after high school.

Emma Young is the daughter of Mark and Janine Young of Millersville. Her father will be her homecoming escort.

Emma is drum major for the Penn Manor Marching Unit and a member of the Tri-M national music honor society and the National Honor Society.

After high school, she plans to study biology and work as a physician’s assistant.

Lynsey Wissler is the daughter of Randy and Dannel Wissler of Holtwood.  Her father will be her homecoming escort.

Lynsey is a member of Manor FFA, Serteen Club, Varsity Club, Student Council and the Spring Fling Crew. She also is a student athletic trainer, plays varsity basketball and is an officer for the Class of 2017.

Lynsey plans to study early childhood education in college.

Brooke DeBerdine is the daughter of Mike and Deb DeBerdine of Millersville. Her father will be her homecoming escort.

Brooke is captain of the field hockey team and a member of the Under-21 National Field Hockey team. She also plays lacrosse and is a member of National Honor Society, Varsity Club, Student Council and Just Cure It Crew and president of the Class of 2017.

Brooke plans to play field hockey while attending the University of Maryland next year.

Shania Pagan is the daughter of Catherine Wiedman and Abraham Pagan of Mountville. Her mother will be her homecoming escort.

Shania participates in cheerleading, dance and children’s ministries. She plans to study nursing after high school.

Penn Manor Homecoming activities will include a pep rally at 2 p.m. Oct. 14 in the East Gym, tailgating prior to the football game and a Homecoming Dance at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 in the Penn Manor High School cafeteria.
