Opening Day activities emphasize employee wellness

More than 400 Penn Manor teachers and administrators took part in Opening Day activities on a wellness theme at the high school Monday. Eshleman Elementary School teacher John Matusek gave an inspiring talk about how he quit smoking, ditched the fast food and lost 29 pounds after joining the district’s wellness program. Following an address by superintendent Michael Leichliter and school board president Ken Long, staff members took part in a wide range of activities and workshops on such subjects as controlling sugar intake, yoga and meditation, kickboxing, drumming and circuit training. Health screenings also were provided. The theme of the event was “Make 1 Change,” as employees were urged to make at least one change to help them live healthier lives.
