Hambright Students Meet Lancaster City Police Officer and His Partner

Fifth and sixth grade students at Hambright Elementary met Lancaster City Police Officer, Ryan Hockley, and his K9 partner, Leo. Leo is a 2 year old German Shepherd who is trained to assist Officer Hockley with tracking suspects and missing persons, apprehending suspects as well as sniffing out drugs. Officer Hockley explained the training both and Leo had to complete and had Leo follow some commands. The students also saw a demonstration of  Leo protecting Officer Hockley when he is “threatened” by Hambright principal, Dr. Jerry Egan, who is dressed in a protective bite suit. The students learned that although police K9 dogs appear to be as friendly as a pet, they provide a vital service and can leap into action quickly. The students had many questions for the officer and enjoyed meeting Leo!
