ACT72 Property Tax Law (Referendum)

Updated 25 May, 2005

Act 72 Final Resolution Adopted May 23, 2005 (PDF)

Act 72 of 2004 is the Homeowner Tax Relief Act. The goal of Act 72 is to reduce a school district's reliance on property taxes. This goal is to be achieved by increasing the earned income tax or personal income tax, and using slot machine tax revenue proceeds. The reduction in property taxes would come via the homestead and farmstead exclusions. In order to be eligible for a reduction in property taxes under Act 72, property owners must complete a Homestead/Farmstead Exclusion Application. The application was sent to all Penn Manor School District homeowners in October and December.

Participating school districts will qualify for a state property tax reduction allocation funded by slot machine revenue. These school districts can qualify for property tax relief funding by passing a resolution by May 30, 2005. The Penn Manor School District Board of Directors is currently reviewing the Act and its implications for the District. See the links below for additional information on Act 72.
